So Where Does One Begin When Starting An Online Business?
This is one of those questions that’s really very important when looking at starting an online business. Knowing what to do first is huge. It really can mean the difference between a quick success or a long drawn out failure.
To answer the question about where to begin when starting an online business we need to look at a few things. The first thing that you’ll want to do is create a plan of what you’re business is intending to do and how it’s going to go about achieving this.
Let me explain this a bit here.
See anyone, you or me, could just jump on the web and find someone to build them a website. Then they could head over to “PayPal” and get a free account to collect payments with, put a “Buy Now” button on their site and poof, they might think that their in business and that money should just start pouring in.
This is not the case. It actually takes a lot more this to create success when starting an online business and like I already said, it starts with a well thought out business plan.
So What’s Involved With The Plan For Starting An Online Business?
The first thing that you need to determine when starting an online business is:
What’s the purpose of the business?
What is it that you’re trying to achieve?
Have you stumbled into something where there’s a real need and you’ve got the solution for it?
Are you just going to promote other peoples products and be a marketing company for them and take a cut of the sale?
Have you created a product yourself and you want to sell it through the internet?
These are all question that you need to have the answers to before you even think about build a website.
So once you know why you’re starting an online business it’s time to look at how you’re going to get your business out there. (You know, that marketing stuff) Now this is going to be significantly different for every single business just because each business basically has a different purpose.
Let’s look at a couple of options here.
In the way of your site, (because you’ll need one no matter what you do online) how do you want your site to look? Is it going to be more of a static page that doesn’t change much or would a blog (a site that get’s regularly updated) be a better choice for you?
If you want to connect with your viewers on a very personal way, a blog might be the better choice but if the site is more to sell a particular product or service you might want to think about using a more static site.
Then you’re also going to need to market this site that you’ll be creating. What forms of marketing do you want to do. I suggest that you focus on one maybe two methods when first starting an online business. If you do too many, you probably wont get the results that you’re wanting.
But you could do PPC, SEO, Social Media, Forum, Banner Ad’s, Media Buys, Mass Email Marketing, Solo Ad’s, Traffic Exchanges, Article Marketing, Micro Sites, JV’s and the list goes on and on. All of these have been used by countless numbers of people that were starting an online business and created massive amounts of success. But once again, you need to plan out what you’re doing first.
Now this is just the beginning of what you need to decide upon. There are still things like:
How will you collect your money?
Will I need a lawyer for anything?
How will my finances be taken care of?
Will I need to hire someone? (Designers, Content Writers, Coder, Marketing Expert[s], Bookkeeper, Layer, Accountant, etc)
Should I get employees or hire outside contractors?
What skills will I need to learn?
Should I find a partner or start the business on my own?
These are just a few of the questions that you’ll need to answer if you want success when starting an online business. Remember, the more that you put in, the more that you’ll get out.
